Devendra Fadnavis Faces Legal Action Over Alleged Hindi Language Imposition

In a major development, a legal notice has been served to Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, triggering political controversy across the state. The issue centers on the alleged imposition of the Hindi language on Marathi and English medium students starting from Grade 1, which critics argue amounts to cultural and linguistic betrayal.

Controversy Over Hindi Language Mandate

The controversy erupted after reports suggested that Hindi was being indirectly made compulsory for students across various mediums in Maharashtra. Critics have accused the state government of cheating the people of Maharashtra and misrepresenting facts by citing the Supreme Court to justify the move.

Violation of Constitutional Oath?

Activist Asim Sarode has issued a legal notice to Devendra Fadnavis, accusing him of violating the constitutional oath taken by the Governor and failing to protect the cultural and linguistic identity of the state.

According to the notice, Fadnavis has seven days to issue a public apology to the people of Maharashtra. If he fails to do so, Sarode has warned of legal action in court against what he calls government-sponsored language oppression.

“This is not just a policy issue—it’s about the linguistic rights of young Marathi-speaking children,” Sarode emphasized.

Growing Political Tension

This development has fueled further tension in an already sensitive linguistic landscape, where language has long been tied to identity and political sentiment in Maharashtra. Opposition leaders and Marathi language activists have begun to rally around the issue, calling it an affront to Marathi pride.

The Fadnavis-led administration is yet to officially respond to the legal notice or clarify its stance on the alleged Hindi imposition.
