The Maharashtra government is implementing several welfare schemes for farmers, women, and the general public. Through schemes like the 'Ladki Bahin' scheme, half-ticket facility for women in ST bus travel, and compensation and rehabilitation schemes for farmers, the government has provided relief.

Many districts in the state have been affected by unseasonal rains this year, causing significant damage to farmers. Standing crops have been flattened, soil has been washed away, and many wells have collapsed. Considering this situation, the state government has recently announced a major aid package. Under this, financial assistance to farmers, new houses through the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, and special grants for the reconstruction of wells and farmland have been decided.

Against this backdrop, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has made a significant decision for the fishing community. Fishermen, fish cultivators, and fish traders in the state will receive electricity at subsidized rates, similar to farmers. This demand was made by Minister Nitesh Rane, and Chief Minister Fadnavis has approved it.

This concession has been implemented as the fishing industry has been granted agricultural status. However, to avail of this scheme, the relevant project must be registered under the National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB). It is expected that this decision will save costs for the fishing community and boost their business.
