CM Fadnavis Accelerates Water Supply Scheme: Administration Pushes for Completion by October

The water supply scheme aimed at addressing the region’s growing demand has gained significant momentum following a directive from Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. The CM has instructed officials to ensure that the scheme is at least partially operational by the end of October, prompting the administration to intensify efforts and fast-track the ongoing work.

In response to the Chief Minister's orders, instructions have been issued to the contractor company to expedite construction and carry out work on a round-the-clock basis. Under this ambitious plan, the administration aims to make approximately 200 million liters per day (MLD) of water available by commissioning two pumps at the newly constructed jackwell in the Jayakwadi reservoir.

A review meeting regarding the scheme was held last Thursday under the chairmanship of Divisional Commissioner Dilip Gawde. The meeting was attended by Police Commissioner Praveen Pawar, Municipal Commissioner G. Srikanth, Superintendent of Police Vinay Rathod, Chief Engineer of Maharashtra Jeevan Pradhikaran Manisha Palande, and representatives from the National Highways Authority and the contractor company.

Although the scale of the project suggests that full completion will require additional time, officials have been directed to finish as much work as possible immediately to enable partial implementation. Work on the jackwell is currently in progress, and officials estimate it will take several more months to complete. Nevertheless, Divisional Commissioner Gawde emphasized that the immediate goal is to activate two pumps and begin water pumping operations.

A high-level committee, formed under the court's directive and led by the Divisional Commissioner, is overseeing the scheme’s implementation. The committee meets twice a month to monitor progress and address challenges. Over the past 11 months, a total of 22 review meetings have been conducted under Commissioner Gawde’s leadership, focusing on project planning, work pace, and future strategies. The accelerated efforts reflect the administration's urgency in mitigating the region’s water issues, especially in anticipation of upcoming seasonal demands.
