Weather Update : Cold wave in the state, but signs of rising temperatures in the coming days
Although biting cold is a common occurrence in the rural areas of Maharashtra, Mumbaikars rarely experience it. However, due to the sharp drop in Mumbai's temperature since Sunday night, the city has started to feel the chill. With the lowest temperatures of the season recorded at Colaba and Santacruz, Mumbaikars have experienced biting cold similar to that in rural areas.
According to the weather department, the minimum temperature recorded on Sunday night was 19 degrees Celsius at Colaba and 15.9 degrees Celsius at Santacruz. This temperature has been the lowest so far this winter season. The maximum temperature recorded at Colaba was 28 degrees Celsius, which was 2.1 degrees below average. Meanwhile, the maximum temperature at Santacruz was 27.5 degrees Celsius, which is a significant 3.4 degrees below average. The combined drop in minimum and maximum temperatures has made the cold in Mumbai more biting.
According to weather experts, the influence of cold and dry winds coming from North India and the clear sky are causing significant heat loss at night. As a result, it is likely that the cold will persist in Mumbai at night and early morning for the next one to two days. The effect of early morning cold is persistent throughout Maharashtra in the third week of January. In some parts of North Maharashtra, Marathwada, and Western Maharashtra, the minimum temperature is being recorded below average. In Jalgaon (11.8 degrees), Nashik (11.4 degrees), and Mahabaleshwar (13.1 degrees), there is a feeling of chill in the morning.
Although the Konkan region is relatively warm, cold is felt at night and early morning. Cold weather has also been recorded in Ratnagiri (16.2 degrees), Dahanu (15.3 degrees), and Harnai (19 degrees). According to senior meteorologist Krishnanand Hosalikar, there is a possibility of a gradual increase in temperature in the state over the next three days. However, a slight chill in the minimum temperature may be felt in some areas between January 23 and 24. After that, there are indications of a gradual increase in temperature over the next two to three days.
