In the backdrop of the upcoming Mumbai municipal elections, political movements in the state have gained momentum, and it has come to light that the Congress has made an important request to NCP chief Sharad Pawar. It is understood from Congress sources that Congress leader Varsha Gaikwad met Pawar and clearly stated the position, “Do not include MNS.” For years, there has been a natural alliance between Congress and Sharad Pawar's NCP in the Mumbai Municipal Corporation. Congress has expressed a firm desire for this tradition to continue in the upcoming elections as well. Speaking on the matter, Varsha Gaikwad said, “For many years, Congress and Pawar Saheb's NCP have naturally remained together in the Mumbai Municipal Corporation. It is our heartfelt expectation that this alliance should continue in the future as well.”

This time they expressed strong disapproval about joining with MNS. “Congress cannot go with those who engage in hooliganism or misuse the law. Our stance is clear,” said Gaikwad. Recalling that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi conveyed a message of unity and love through the 'Bharat Jodo Yatra', she further said, “The issue of Mumbai should be resolved without getting into disputes of religion, caste, or language. It is necessary to focus on the problems faced by Mumbaikars.”

According to them, the foundation of any alliance is a common program. “The Congress has always participated in alliances based on a common minimum program. Whether it is the NDA or the Maha Vikas Aghadi—we have worked without letting go of constitutional values,” she said. While some leaders of both parties were discussing coming together, the Congress noted that Pawar should have had direct discussions. “If two brothers come together, we wish them well; but there should have been communication with us before such important decisions,” the Congress clarified.

From the perspective of the Mumbai municipal elections, this meeting and stance are proving to be important. Now, everyone is watching what decision Sharad Pawar will make regarding the question of going with MNS.
