Air Pollution : Constant changes in Mumbai's weather; Air quality deteriorated
The weather in Mumbai city and suburbs has been consistently changing over the past few days, directly affecting the air quality. Sometimes there's a chill in the morning, increased heat in the afternoon, and a hazy atmosphere in the evening, leading to a significant rise in air pollution in Mumbai. According to experts, the pollution crisis is likely to persist until February 2.
Currently, in many parts of Mumbai, the Air Quality Index (AQI) is recorded in the moderate to poor category. Particularly, it is observed that pollution levels are higher on busy city roads, areas under construction, and industrial parts of the suburbs. In the morning, a fog-like hazy atmosphere is spread, causing respiratory issues for citizens.
According to weather experts, currently, due to the reduced wind speed and increased humidity in the atmosphere, pollutant particles are getting trapped in the air. As a result, instead of decreasing, the intensity of pollution seems to be increasing. Additionally, traffic congestion, emissions from vehicles, and ongoing large-scale constructions are also considered major reasons for the increase in pollution. It has been recorded that the air quality has deteriorated in areas adjacent to Mumbai city, including Andheri, Bandra, Kurla, Ghatkopar, Mulund, Thane, and some parts of Navi Mumbai. It is expressed that children, senior citizens, and patients with asthma, asthma, and heart diseases are likely to be most affected.
Health experts have advised citizens to take special care. It is advised to avoid going out in the morning unless necessary, use masks, and drink enough water. Additionally, emphasis has been placed on maintaining proper ventilation indoors as pollution levels are rising. Meanwhile, if the weather changes and wind speed increases, pollution may decrease to some extent. However, as there is little chance of improvement until February 2, Mumbaikars need to remain alert. Overall, increasing pollution with changing weather is becoming a serious concern for Mumbaikars.
