Pune University : ‘Voice of Devendra’ Elocution Contest Sparks Controversy; NSUI Protest Continues

A major controversy has arisen over the 'Voice of Devendra' elocution competition organized at Savitribai Phule Pune University, with NSUI and various student organizations launching intense protests. After the competition was announced through the university's circular, student organizations have shown outright opposition to it.

Student organizations claim that this competition was organized according to a statement from a social organization, and the university has made the decision under their pressure. “The university is not a PR agency for any political party. If tomorrow competitions are held in the name of other parties or organizations, should students tolerate that too?” questioned the protesters.

NSUI activists warned the vice-chancellor, saying, “The issues of university students – especially the issues of hostels and other facilities – are not being resolved, and money is being spent on such competitions. If you want to hold a competition, do it in the branch of the organization, promoting it under the university's name is unacceptable.”
