Delhi Blast Update: New Turn in Delhi Blast Case, Exchange of Car Owners and Investigation of Terrorist Angle
(Delhi Blast Update) After the car bomb explosion near the Red Fort on Monday evening, forensic and anti-terrorism experts who rushed to the scene initially noticed one thing. There were no craters, shrapnels, or pellets. This initially puzzled the investigators. However, within a few hours, a possible explanation emerged: if the car was in motion, there might not be a crater after the explosion, some experts suggested.
An officer stated, “This explosion might have been caused by highly flammable chemical substances. It is likely to be high-grade explosive material.” He further mentioned that there is a preliminary suspicion that a mixture of ammonium nitrate and RDX might have been used. However, the final conclusion will only be reached after the forensic report is received.
Meanwhile, the Delhi Police started the process of registering an FIR late on Monday, and the investigation is likely to be transferred to the National Investigation Agency (NIA). In the initial investigation, the police traced a lead to a person named Salman in Gurgaon. The Hyundai i20 car with the number ‘HR 26 7674’ was registered in Salman's name. However, Salman told the police that he had sold the car to a person named Devendra in March. Subsequently, the police contacted the vehicle registration office (RTO) to request further information regarding the sale of the car.
A shocking fact emerged in the investigation that fake identity cards were used for the purchase and sale of the vehicle, one of which was made in the name of a person from Pulwama, an official said. The most suspicious thing in all this complexity is that the ownership of this vehicle has changed hands many times. Such frequent changes of ownership are made in vehicles used by terrorist organizations for attacks, so the possibility of a terrorist angle cannot be ruled out, the investigating agencies have said.
Evidence has been found by the police that at least three people were in the car at the time of the explosion. Therefore, it is also being investigated whether this car was rented, as usually one or two people are involved in suicide attacks, the police noted. Home Minister Amit Shah highlighted an important point in this case, stating that footage from more than 230 CCTV cameras installed around the scene is being examined. From this footage, both the route and the registration number of the car have been clarified, according to information provided by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
However, many questions remain unanswered before the investigating agencies,
Why were there three people in the car?
Why was the car's number from out of town?
Through how many transactions did the car go through buying and selling?
All these questions are currently at the center of the investigation. A joint investigation by the NIA, Delhi Police, and forensic experts is underway, with an in-depth study of the substances used in the explosion and the car's journey. Nine people have died in this explosion near the Red Fort, and many are injured. The area has currently been sealed, and a high alert has been issued in the national capital.
