In the wake of the tragic death of four tourists during the monsoon at Kundamala in Maval taluka, Pune District Collector Jitendra Dudi has issued strict orders banning public access to dangerous tourist spots across the district.

At a review meeting of the District Disaster Management Authority, the Collector emphasized the need to prioritize citizen safety during the monsoon season. He directed officials to install directional signage at hazardous locations and implement all necessary safety measures.

Key instructions from the District Collector include:

  • Ban on public entry to risky tourist locations during the monsoon.

  • Installation of barricades in areas prone to waterlogging or flash floods.

  • Conduct of mock drills in identified danger zones.

  • Ensuring the district control room functions 24x7.

  • Deployment of police personnel and lifeguard teams in crowded or high-risk areas.

  • Promotion of public awareness campaigns on monsoon safety.

The Collector also instructed Mahavitaran (MSEDCL) to carry out a thorough inspection of electric poles and wiring in vulnerable zones.

Additionally, a structural audit of dangerous bridges, canals, buildings, forts, and advertisement hoardings is to be conducted within seven days, with a detailed report submitted to the administration.

He clarified that while removing hazardous structures, care must be taken to ensure minimal inconvenience to the public. Emphasizing a coordinated approach, Dudi stressed that citizen safety must remain the top priority for all departments.
