Eight Dead Due to Contaminated Water in Indore, Immediate Action by Administration
Madhya Pradesh : There is a major commotion in Indore, known as the cleanest city in the country, due to contaminated water. Many people have suffered from vomiting and diarrhea due to drinking contaminated water. It is alleged that eight people have died from this illness, while the administration has officially confirmed the deaths of three people. Additionally, more than 100 people are receiving treatment in various hospitals.
Chief Minister's Aid Announcement
Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has expressed condolences over the incident. In an official statement, he said that the families of the deceased will be given assistance of 2 lakh rupees each, and the state government will bear the cost of treatment for all patients.
Death Allegation Based on Passengers' Statements
According to local residents, eight people have died due to drinking contaminated water, including six women. This incident occurred last week in the Bhagirathpura area, spreading fear and discontent among the locals. Health department officials stated on Wednesday that Nandlal Pal (70), Urmila Yadav (60), and Tara Kori (65) from Bhagirathpura died due to diarrhea.
Government's Immediate Action
Following the Chief Minister's orders, the zonal officer and assistant engineer of Indore Municipal Corporation have been suspended. Additionally, a deputy engineer has also been suspended. An expert committee has been formed to investigate the contaminated water supply issue, which will be led by Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers.
Examination and Treatment of Patients
Chief Medical Officer Dr. Madhav Prasad Hasani stated that after the outbreak of vomiting and diarrhea was observed in the Bhagirathpura area, the health department surveyed 2,703 houses and examined about 12,000 people. Of these, 1,146 patients were given initial treatment. Critical patients were admitted to the hospital, and 18 patients were sent home after treatment.
Leakage in Water Supply
Municipal Commissioner Dilip Kumar Yadav stated that a leak has been found in the main water supply pipeline near the toilet in the Bhagirathpura area. This could potentially contaminate the drinking water. The administration is investigating this leak, and the process of improving the water supply will begin soon.
Political Criticism
Madhya Pradesh Congress spokesperson Neelabh Shukla has alleged that the administration is hiding its negligence in the contaminated water scam and showing false numbers of deaths. According to him, Indore's cleanliness has been tarnished, and the administration is merely pretending to take action.
Due to contaminated water, concern among the citizens of Indore has increased, and the administration needs to take appropriate steps in this matter urgently.
