Himachal Pradesh: Himachal Pradesh is reeling under the impact of relentless rainfall, with floods and landslides causing widespread devastation across the state. Roads and bridges have been submerged, while landslides have further worsened the situation, particularly in the Mandi district.

Amid the chaos, a shocking yet inspiring story of courage and determination has emerged. Tuneja Thakur, a 20-year-old resident of Mandi, survived a life-threatening landslide after being trapped under debris for hours. She was completely buried under mud, stones, and earth following a landslide triggered by the heavy rains. But despite being unable to breathe properly and surrounded by panic, Tuneja did not lose hope

A Remarkable Will to Survive

With sheer determination, she began clearing the mud around her to create space and allow herself to breathe. Her family and local villagers worked tirelessly for over five hours to rescue her. Eventually, she was located and safely pulled out from the rubble.

Recalling the horrifying experience, Tuneja said, “I was scared. There was chaos everywhere. It was raining heavily and people were screaming. I was trying to reach a safe place when suddenly a landslide occurred and I was trapped under the debris.” Her calmness under pressure and unwavering will to survive have made her a symbol of courage across the state.

Recognition and Ongoing Crisis

Following her miraculous survival, Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri and Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur met Tuneja to commend her bravery and resilience. Her story has become a source of inspiration at a time when many are battling despair in the flood-hit regions.

Meanwhile, the situation in Mandi remains grim. Cloudbursts and floods have resulted in significant loss of life and property, particularly in low-lying and hilly areas. The flood that struck around 11:30 p.m. on June 30 caused massive damage in several villages.

Despite the widespread devastation, stories like Tuneja’s bring hope and highlight the unbreakable spirit of those facing nature’s fury head-on.
