A tragic accident struck the Maval region of Pune district on Sunday, as a bridge over the Indrayani River in the Kundamala area collapsed, claiming the lives of four individuals and leaving 51 others injured. The incident occurred when a large number of people were reportedly crossing the bridge, many of them participating in religious or local activities. According to the official accident report released today, structural failure appears to be the primary cause behind the bridge's sudden collapse. Initial findings suggest that the bridge may have been under excessive load, with cracks and maintenance lapses going unaddressed for a significant period.

Emergency services, including the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), local police, and medical teams, were rushed to the scene immediately after the collapse. The injured were transported to nearby hospitals, and several are said to be in critical condition. Pune District Collector and other senior officials visited the site and assured that a detailed investigation has been initiated. “We are treating this as a high-priority case. Accountability will be fixed, and action will be taken against those responsible for the negligence,” a district official stated.

The Maharashtra government has announced compensation for the families of the deceased and financial aid for the injured. Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis expressed deep sorrow over the incident and assured that the government will take strict measures to ensure infrastructure safety in the region. The Indrayani River bridge collapse has raised serious concerns about the safety and upkeep of public infrastructure, especially in areas that see large public gatherings.
