In Brief
Fulfillment of home dreams for 423 police officers in Naigaon BDD
Distribution of house keys by the Chief Minister on Wednesday
An important phase of BDD redevelopment
After a long wait, protests, and legal battles, the historic moment of fulfilling the home dreams of police families in the Naigaon BDD area has finally arrived. The construction of five rehabilitated buildings under the 'Naigaon BDD Redevelopment' scheme by the Mumbai Board of MHADA has been completed, and the symbolic distribution of keys to 864 houses in these buildings will take place next Wednesday (12th November) at the hands of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. Out of these houses, 423 will be given to retired and serving police personnel. Therefore, for the families of police officers who have been dreaming of their own homes for many years, this day will truly be a 'pre-Diwali celebration'.
Important Phase of BDD Redevelopment
The Mumbai Board of MHADA has constructed five redeveloped buildings under the Naigaon BDD Redevelopment Scheme. These 864 homes will receive the Occupation Certificate on Monday, and subsequently, the key distribution ceremony will take place on Wednesday in the presence of the Chief Minister. The possession of these homes was initially planned for the Diwali period, but the ceremony was postponed due to the delay in obtaining the Occupation Certificate.
The dream of home ownership for 423 police officers realized
Under this scheme, out of 864 houses, 423 houses will be allotted to retired and serving police officers. Police families have been living for decades in the BDD chawls of Worli, Na. M. Joshi Marg, and Naigaon in Mumbai. During the redevelopment process of these chawls, police families have consistently fought for years to secure housing guarantees for police officers. After protests, marches, and legal battles, the government finally agreed to the demands of the police, deciding to provide a house with an area of 500 sq. ft. for 1.5 million rupees. The process of compensation for these houses, amounting to 1.5 million rupees, is currently underway by the Mumbai Board, and eligible police officers will be allotted houses in this phase.
Success Achieved After a Long Struggle
Regarding this fight, Rekha More, a police officer's wife from Naigaon BDD, said, “We fought hard for the police to get houses. We protested, marched, and went to court. We met every MLA, MP, Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister, and opposition leaders. Finally, our struggle has succeeded. The dream of rightful homes for the police in Naigaon is now being fulfilled, and all of us police families are happy.”
