A very important hearing regarding OBC reservation (OBC Reservation) in local self-government institutions in Maharashtra is going to take place tomorrow in the Supreme Court. The entire state is focused on this hearing, and it is likely to have a direct impact on the upcoming municipal corporation, municipal council, and district council elections.

The state government had established the Bhatia Commission to implement OBC reservation in local self-government bodies. Based on the empirical data collected by this commission, the percentage of OBC reservation in many local self-government bodies in the state has been reduced. According to the commission's report, it has been claimed that the OBC population is lower in some places, and therefore the reservation percentage has been reduced.

However, a legal objection has been raised against the empirical data presented by the Bhatia Commission and the reduced percentage of OBC reservation based on it. Renowned Supreme Court lawyer Adv. Mangesh Sasane has directly challenged this decision in the Supreme Court. The petition claims that the commission's data is incomplete, flawed, and inconsistent with reality.

The petition states that the data collected by the Bathiya Commission has not been compiled properly. Also, in many places, the population of the OBC community is shown to be less even though it is actually more. Therefore, it is alleged that injustice is being done to the OBC community, and their political representation is being limited.

The hearing of this case will be held in the Supreme Court tomorrow, and the OBC community across the state is keenly watching what stance the court takes. If the court decides in favor of the petitioners, the reservation equations in local self-government bodies can change completely. This may impact the election process as well as the policies of the state government.

Meanwhile, the state government is claiming that the report of the Bathiya Commission and the process behind it are legal. The government states that the commission collected empirical data according to previous Supreme Court directives. Therefore, there is a possibility of intense arguments between the state government and the petitioners in tomorrow's hearing.
