Updating Aadhaar Card is a Fundamental Right
Many people face difficulties in updating their Aadhaar card. During the hearing of a related case, the Madras High Court stated that 'updating the Aadhaar card is a fundamental and legal right. Therefore, UIDAI should ensure that people do not face difficulties while updating their Aadhaar card, as it is linked to many schemes. This greatly benefits citizens. Hence, the process of updating the Aadhaar card should be simplified.'
The facility to update Aadhaar data should be easy
Justice GR Swaminathan's bench further stated that availing government schemes is a fundamental right of citizens and Aadhaar card is necessary for that. It is wrong for citizens to have to struggle for this. Citizens should have an easy facility to update or correct Aadhaar data. It will be the responsibility of UIDAI to provide this facility to citizens. Complaints regarding Aadhaar card updates have also emerged in many parts of the country.
Meanwhile, the court made this statement while hearing the petition filed by 74-year-old widow P. Pushpam. Pushpam's pension has been blocked due to errors in the name and date of birth on her Aadhaar card, and now she is facing difficulties in correcting the Aadhaar card.
