Maharashtra Weather Update: Hill Stations Turn Into ‘Heat Stations’ as Temperatures Soar

Maharashtra temperature: Cold places become hot, temperatures increase in summer

As Maharashtra continues to sizzle under the grip of an early summer heatwave, even traditionally cool hill stations are now experiencing unseasonal spikes in temperature. Popular tourist destinations such as Mahabaleshwar, Panchgani, Matheran, and Lonavala — once known for their refreshing climate — are now recording unexpectedly high temperatures, turning hill stations into "heat stations."

With schools currently on vacation, many families are heading toward these cool getaways to escape the scorching heat. However, this year, those hill stations are offering little respite. The mercury has begun to rise rapidly across the state, with heatwave conditions being observed even in the second week of April.

On Monday, Lonavala recorded a maximum temperature of 38°C, while Igatpuri and Toranmal registered highs of 39°C — temperatures more typical of the Vidarbha region than of hill retreats.

Even Mahabaleshwar, regarded as one of the coolest destinations in the Satara district and a favorite among Mumbai-Pune tourists, reported a temperature of 33.6°C, far above its usual average. Panchgani followed closely with 34°C.

The Konkan region, famously known for its breezy coastal climate, is also feeling the heat, with temperatures reaching 35°C — an unusual trend for the region during this time of year.

Authorities are urging travelers to stay hydrated, avoid prolonged outdoor exposure during peak hours, and take necessary precautions while visiting these destinations.
