Railway Rules : Konkankars, Stay Informed; Important Train Ticket Rules for Ganpati Season
As the excitement for Ganeshotsav builds up, thousands of Konkankars living in Mumbai and other cities are preparing to head back home to Konkan for the grand celebration. Every year, lakhs of people travel by train to reunite with family and celebrate the beloved festival of Ganpati. However, securing train tickets during this festive rush can be challenging.
To avoid last-minute stress and ensure a hassle-free journey, it’s crucial to understand the railway ticket booking rules laid down by IRCTC. A little awareness can go a long way in helping you travel on time — with the right ticket in hand.
Here are the Key Railway Rules You Must Know:
Advance Booking: You can book train tickets 120 days (4 months) in advance of your intended travel date. Planning early increases your chances of getting a confirmed seat.
Passenger Limit Per Account: As per IRCTC regulations, a maximum of 6 passengers can be booked on one railway account per ticket.
Ticket Cancellation:
You can cancel your confirmed ticket up to 4 hours before the train's departure. In such cases, the refund will be processed to your registered email and bank account.
Post-chart cancellation is also possible. If you cancel after the chart is prepared, you need to send an email with full ticket details to etickets@irctc.co.in and fill out a Ticket Deposit Receipt (TDR) to claim a refund.
Waiting List Tickets: If your ticket remains on the waiting list even after the final chart is prepared, you cannot board the train with that ticket. However, your booking amount will be automatically refunded to your account.
With heavy demand during Ganesh festival season, it's easy to make booking errors or miss out on a seat. But by following these simple rules and planning ahead, you can ensure your Ganpati journey is comfortable, timely, and stress-free. So, before you log on to book your train ticket — read the rules, mark your dates, and act early!
