Incoming Call Alert: Has Your Calling App’s Design Changed Too? Here’s What You Need to Know
Have the call settings on your smartphone suddenly changed? In recent days, the design of the calling app and dialer on many Android users' phones seems to have changed. This change has caused confusion among users, and some have expressed dissatisfaction on social media.
Many people were concerned that their phone might have been hacked when the interface seen while making or receiving calls on Android phones suddenly changed. However, it has been revealed that this change is not due to hacking but is caused by Google's new update.
Google had announced in May 2025 that it would bring a major update called 'Material 3D Expressive'. As part of this update, changes have been made to the calling app on Android phones. Initially, this update was given to some users and then gradually rolled out everywhere.
After this update, the 'Recents' and 'Favorites' options have been removed from the phone app and merged into 'Home'. So now, when you open the phone app, only 'Home' and 'Keypad' options are visible. Additionally, call history is shown by time, so all calls from one number are not shown together but separately. According to Google, this makes call history more understandable. Also, the design of 'Incoming Call' and 'In-Call' has been changed based on user feedback. The company claims that the new design is more convenient to prevent accidental call reception or disconnection when taking the phone out of the pocket.
Google has clarified that these changes are not related to hacking and do not affect user data. These changes are made only to make the calling app simpler and more secure. If a user does not want the new style, they can go to the phone's settings and select the 'Uninstall Updates' option to revert to the old style. Also, if auto-updates in the Play Store are turned off, future updates will not happen automatically.
That is, the sudden change in call settings on Android phones is not due to hacking, but because of a new update by Google. Users can choose to use the new design or revert to the old style if they wish.
