India-US Postal Service Resumes from October 15
In Brief
Big announcement from India Post!
Postal service between India and America resumes from October 15
Fees to be reduced
The Indian Postal Department made an important announcement on Tuesday, stating that from October 15, 2025, international postal services to the United States of America (USA) for all categories will resume. This decision will provide significant relief to MSMEs and e-commerce exporters, as they will regain a low-cost shipping option.
Why were the services suspended?
International postal services were previously suspended on August 22 due to an executive order issued by the American administration. India Post stated that this suspension was necessary to comply with new regulatory requirements implemented by the US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) for collecting and sending import duties. The postal department has now announced the resumption of services in compliance with these revised US import requirements.
New Fee Structure
50% Customs Duty: According to information provided by India Post, under the new guidelines of the US Customs and Border Protection (CBP), a flat customs duty rate of 50 percent of the declared consignment value will apply to postal shipments sent from India to the United States.
No Other Charges: The postal department has clarified that, unlike courier or commercial consignments, no additional base or product-specific charges will be levied on postal items.
Significant Benefit for Exporters
The postal department has stated that for exporters, “this favorable fee structure significantly reduces the overall cost burden.”
The postal channel becomes a more affordable and competitive logistics option for MSMEs, artisans, small traders, and e-commerce exporters.
No Additional Charges for Customers
It has also been clarified by the postal department that no additional charges will be levied on customers to facilitate DDP (Delivered Duty Paid) and eligible party services.
Postage charges will remain unchanged, as stated in the official statement. This will allow exporters to continue benefiting from affordable international shipping rates while complying with the revised import requirements of the United States.
