IndiGo Crisis : IndiGo's big announcement; Passengers will get their money back, rescheduling fee zero
The issue of flight cancellations for the country's largest airline, IndiGo, continues for the fifth day. On Saturday (December 6), IndiGo canceled more than 400 flights, while on Friday, a staggering 1,000 flights were canceled, leaving thousands of passengers stranded at airports. This situation arose due to technical difficulties, bad weather, changes in crew rosters, and operational collapse. Passengers are expressing immense anger, and videos of frustrated passengers and photos from airports have become a topic of discussion on social media.
Strict Order from Central Government
On Saturday, the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA) ordered Indigo to complete all pending refunds by 8 PM on Sunday, December 7, 2025. Additionally, no rescheduling fees should be charged to any passengers for canceled or delayed flights. The ministry clarified that immediate action will be taken if the rules are not followed. This includes the following:
Full refund for passengers wishing to cancel tickets.
No rescheduling fees for canceled or delayed flights.
Maintaining fare caps on rentals until the situation stabilizes.
Establishment of Passenger Assistance Center
Due to a large number of stranded passengers, the ministry instructed Indigo to set up a "Passenger Support and Refund Cell." The aim of this center is to actively engage with passengers, expedite refund processes, arrange alternative flights, and maintain continuous follow-up on the recovery process. According to the ministry, these centers will help reduce passenger stress through clear communication and assistance.
48-hour deadline for lost luggage
Due to delays and cancellations, passengers' luggage has been lost at airports. The ministry ordered Indigo to,
Deliver lost/delayed luggage to passengers' homes within 48 hours.
Continuously inform passengers about the status of their luggage.
Provide compensation according to Passenger Rights regulations.
Indigo's Response
Indigo issued a statement following the government's order that refunds for all canceled flights will be credited through auto-refund to the original payment method. Additionally, cancellation fees have been completely waived for all tickets between December 5 and 15, 2025, and no charges will be applied for rescheduling.
