In the coming years, railway travel in Mumbai, the country's financial capital, and its adjoining metropolitan areas will become much more convenient. The Central Railway has developed a major plan to reduce the strain on existing stations in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. This includes building platforms at all major stations, with a total of 20 new platforms to be added.

Rail travel for passengers in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) is expected to become more convenient in the coming years. In addition, the number of trains departing from Mumbai to various parts of the country will increase. This is because, over the next five years, the platforms at four major termini in the MMR will be expanded. This means more platforms will be built at each station. An official stated that plans are currently underway to build 20 new platforms at the four termini: five at Parel, six at Kalyan, four at Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT), and five at Panvel. This will pave the way for an increase in the number of local and long-distance trains. This initiative has been undertaken to meet the needs of the growing population and the daily travel requirements of millions of passengers.

Parel Terminus to reduce load on CSMT-Dadar

There was a proposal to develop it in the Railway Budget 2025. An official said that Parel Terminus will be connected to the new 5th and 6th lines between Kurla and Parel, which will be used only for mail/express trains. This terminus will help reduce the load to some extent on existing stations like CSMT and Dadar located in the heart of Mumbai. Under the Amrit Bharat Station Project, the existing Parel station has been redeveloped. In the future, after adding platforms, the services of trains starting and ending at this station will also increase.

Intercity services to be increased

There are plans for four new platforms at Lokmanya Tilak Terminus. This station is the main terminal for long-distance trains, and the new platform facilities will increase the number of intercity and express trains and reduce congestion. Similarly, five new platforms will be built at the rapidly developing Panvel station. In the future, with the Mumbai Trans-Harbour Link, Navi Mumbai Airport, and Metro network, Panvel is set to become a major transport interchange. These platforms, to be completed in the coming years, will significantly enhance Central Railway's services. Currently, approximately 4 million passengers travel daily on Central Railway's 1,810 suburban services.
