The accidental death of a 66-year-old NRI woman who had arrived from London at Dadar railway station in Mumbai has proved to be extremely heartbreaking. This accident, which occurred while she was searching for a toilet, once again raises questions about the safety of railway passengers. The woman, who had come to Dadar from Ambernath, boarded a mail express standing nearby as she could not find a toilet on the platform. However, as soon as the train started moving, she tried to get down from the moving train, and at that moment, she lost her balance and got trapped in the gap between the train and the platform.

After the accident, the passengers present and the railway staff immediately rescued the woman and admitted her to Sion Hospital. However, due to severe injuries, she died during treatment. The Dadar Railway Police have recorded a case of accidental death in this matter. Although the deceased woman and her husband Badshah Sheikh were originally from Hyderabad, the entire family has been settled in London for the past three decades. Every few years, they come to Mumbai and Bengaluru to visit relatives in India. Just a few days ago, the couple had come to Ambernath and had taken a local train to Dadar to go to the airport. However, a moment’s mistake led to a major tragedy. The woman’s body has been sent to Hyderabad for the final rites, and grief has spread among the Sheikh family.

Rescue of Thane students from Lucknow; Relief from crisis due to intervention of MLA Jitendra Awhad

On the other hand, students from Dr. Bedekar College in Thane who had gone to Lucknow for a Scout-Guide camp faced major difficulties during their return journey. A total of 15 students and two teachers were to catch the Pushpak Express for their return. However, as the train had already departed, they were stranded. After contacting a private bus travel service, they managed to get a bus, but shockingly, the bus driver told the students to get off in the middle of the road and drove the bus away from there.

In a foreign city, children and teachers being trapped in unsafe conditions created an atmosphere of fear among parents as well. As soon as they learned about the situation, the parents contacted MLA Jitendra Awhad of the Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar group). Awhad immediately got in touch with local officials of the Samajwadi Party in Lucknow and arranged to move the students to a safe location. Currently, all the students have been placed in a secure ashram, and arrangements are being made to send them to Thane with proper facilities for their return journey. This incident has raised many questions about the private bus service in terms of student safety.
