Indian Railway : Major change for Mumbai local commuters; Monthly pass now only through RailOne app
An important change has been announced for suburban railway passengers in Mumbai. The Indian Railways administration has discontinued the facility of booking monthly local train passes through the UTS on Mobile app, and now it is mandatory to use the RailOne app for all new pass bookings. The purpose behind this decision is to make various railway services available on a single platform.
Confusion Among Passengers
The sudden change has created an atmosphere of confusion among the millions of passengers who regularly use the UTS app. Many have doubts about how to register on the RailOne app, how to book a monthly pass, or how to renew an old pass.
The railway administration has clarified that the process of booking passes through the RailOne app is simple, and by following a few steps, a new pass can be easily obtained.
How to book a pass on the RailOne app?
After opening the UTS app, a message to install the RailOne app will appear.
Click on ‘Download Now’ to download the RailOne app.
Open the app and choose ‘Skip’ or ‘Continue’.
If you are a new user, log in by entering your mobile number.
If you are already a UTS or Rail Connect user, select the relevant option and enter your mobile number and password.
After verifying the OTP, set a 6-digit pin.
Select the ‘Unreserved’ option on the main window.
Fill in the necessary information for the pass and complete the payment.
It is necessary to select an ID while making the payment. After the process is complete, the digital pass becomes available on the mobile.
Discount on Digital Booking
RailOne app is offering up to about 3% discount to promote digital transactions. This offer will be applicable from January 14, 2026, to July 14, 2026. Therefore, regular passengers will also gain financial benefits.
Moving Towards Integrated Services
According to the railway administration, there is an effort to make unreserved ticketing, pass booking, reservation information, and other services available in one place through the RailOne app. This will save passengers time and make services more convenient.
Since Mumbai suburban railway is the service with the highest passenger traffic in the country, this change will impact millions of passengers. Although there might be confusion initially, the administration believes that the process will become smoother as the use of the RailOne app increases.
