The revised draft after the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list in Uttar Pradesh has been announced on Tuesday. According to this new draft, a significant decrease in the number of voters in the state has been revealed, sparking discussions in political circles. According to the Election Commission, there were a total of 15.44 crore registered voters in Uttar Pradesh in the previous voter list. However, after 'SIR', the names of 2.89 crore voters have been removed, and now the total number of voters stands at 12.55 crore. This decrease is approximately 18.70 percent.

Senior Election Commission official Rinwa provided detailed information in this regard. He stated that there are three main reasons for removing names from the voter list. These include the death of voters, permanent relocation, and multiple registrations of the same person. The commission clarified that this process has been conducted in a completely transparent manner.

Rinwa stated that Election Commission employees went to every household across the state for direct verification. During this process, signatures of the concerned voters were taken on the forms provided to the voters. There were 15.44 crore voters in the old voter list as of October 27, 2025, but after the 'SIR' process, this number has come down to 12.55 crore.

Out of the 28.9 million voters removed, it was found that approximately 4.623 million voters had died. The remaining 25.7 million voters have either permanently migrated or were unavailable during verification, according to the commission. Therefore, the names of such voters have been removed from the list.

Meanwhile, an important change has been made in the voting system. Now, a maximum of 1,200 voters will be considered at each polling station. Previously, this limit was 1,500 voters. Due to this change, approximately 15,030 new polling stations will be established in Uttar Pradesh. This will facilitate the voting process and reduce the inconvenience of voters having to stand in line, claimed the Election Commission.

Citizens have been given a period of one month to make corrections or raise objections in the revised voter list. During this period, objections can be raised and necessary corrections can be made. Overall, due to this major change in the voter list in Uttar Pradesh, everyone is focused on what impact it will have on the political equations in the upcoming elections.
