Mumbai Outraged as Cancer-Stricken Grandmother Abandoned by Grandson in Garbage Dump
In a deeply disturbing incident that has shaken the conscience of Mumbai, an elderly woman suffering from skin cancer was allegedly abandoned by her own grandson in a garbage dump in the Aarey Colony area. The incident has sparked widespread outrage and raised serious concerns about deteriorating human values and family relationships.
The victim has been identified as Yashoda Gaikwad, a senior citizen who lived with her grandson in the Malad area. According to reports, around 8:30 AM, local residents noticed an elderly woman lying helplessly in a pile of garbage on the roadside in Aarey. Shocked by the sight, they immediately alerted the nearest police station.
Police rushed to the spot and promptly shifted the woman to a nearby hospital for medical assistance. However, in a further blow to basic human decency, two to three hospitals reportedly refused to admit her. Eventually, she was admitted to Cooper Hospital, where she is currently undergoing treatment.
During preliminary questioning, the woman provided the police with her residential address. When officers visited the location, they found the house locked. Further investigation revealed that Yashoda Gaikwad is battling skin cancer, and her grandson allegedly abandoned her due to a lack of financial resources for her treatment.
This act of cruelty has triggered widespread condemnation. In a society where grandparents are often pillars of love and support for younger generations, such betrayal by a family member has raised questions about the erosion of compassion and familial responsibility.
Police have launched a search operation to trace the accused grandson, who is currently absconding.
