A crucial phase of Metro 7 in Mumbai is nearing completion. The tunnel break-through of Metro 7 will be completed from Thursday, April 17. The final phase of Metro 7 is being carried out at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (T2). The tunnel has started from T2 and is 1.7 km long. The Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) will complete the tunnel work on the down route tomorrow. This route from Andheri T2 to Gundavli will be an elevated route from the tunnel. There are 13 stations on this route and the metro is currently running from Gundavli to Dahisar East. However, soon passengers will be able to travel from Gundavli to Airport Road.

Metro 7 is developed by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA). Metro 7 is a 16.4 km long elevated metro project with 13 stations and is the Red Line. The first phase was inaugurated by Prime Minister Modi in April 2022. The elevated and tunnel work has been completed and the metro is likely to run at full capacity soon.

Tunnel Break Through

The tunnel in Mumbai Metro 7 will be broken through on Thursday. During this break through, the TBM machine will complete a 1.7 km tunnel. Similarly, there is a tunnel on the route, which will reach Gundavli. Metro 7 and Metro 3 will be parallel at the Mumbai International Terminal. Therefore, Metro 3 passengers will have a way to get to Metro 7 as well.

Engineering Officer Krishna Gupta informed that, "The metro tunnel starting from Mumbai Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminals T2 will be completed after completing a 1.7-km stretch. The corridor of Line 7 at Dahisar has been extended northwards to Mira Bhayandar as Metro 9. At the southern end, it has been extended from Andheri to CSMIA T2 International Airport as Metro 7A. Lines 7, 7A and 9 are collectively called the Red Line Metro Mumbai."

Metro 7 is currently running from Andheri Gundavali station to Dahisar East. However, the next station will be Airport Road and T2. Therefore, when the last phase of Metro 7 is launched, millions of Mumbaikars and commuters will get relief.
