Mumbai BEST Bus : New Bus in Service for Mumbaikars! 150 BEST Buses to Run on 21 Routes
To modernize and make the state's public transport system more environmentally friendly, the state government is expanding the fleet of ST and BEST. As part of this, 150 new electric buses of the Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport Undertaking have been introduced into passenger service today. The inauguration of these buses took place in the presence of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. These buses will run on 21 routes in Mumbai and will benefit approximately 1.9 lakh passengers daily, as informed by the Chief Minister.
Chief Minister Fadnavis said, “The government's objective is to provide convenient, clean, and pollution-free transportation facilities to Mumbaikars. Therefore, 5000 new bus services are being made available to passengers in phases. BEST is the lifeline of Mumbai and its modernization will be continuously undertaken.”
Features and Services of the Buses
These 150 electric buses will be operated on a 'wet lease' basis. Of these, 115 buses are supplied by PMI Electro Mobility and will be operated through Mumbadevi Mobility Pvt. Ltd. Meanwhile, 35 buses are produced by Olectra Greentech Ltd. and will be operated through EV Trans Maharashtra Pvt. Ltd.
These buses are equipped with ramp facilities for senior citizens and the differently-abled, excellent seating arrangements, and advanced safety features. The buses will undergo regular inspections through quality control centers.
These buses will connect important railway stations like Andheri, Jogeshwari, Kurla, Bandra, Kandivali, and Borivali, as well as Metro lines 1, 2A, 7, and 3. This will enhance last-mile connectivity.
Officials stated that the main aim of this initiative is to take a significant step towards eco-friendly transportation, reduce carbon emissions in Mumbai, and strengthen sustainable public transport.
