Lonavala Ekvira Devi Temple: New Dress Code Rules Announced for Devotees from July 7
The sacred shrine of Ekvira Devi, located amidst the world-renowned Karla Caves in Karla village near Lonavala, attracts lakhs of devotees every year — particularly from the Agri and Koli communities. Pilgrims travel long distances to seek the blessings of the goddess. However, beginning July 7, new rules will be enforced for those visiting the temple, with a special focus on dress code regulations.
The Karla Ekvira Aai Trust, under the leadership of chief trustee Kha. Suresh Mhatre, also known as Balya Mama, has officially announced the implementation of the dress code. The decision was taken during a recently held meeting, with the aim of preserving the sanctity and spiritual atmosphere of the temple.
What is the New Dress Code?
According to the newly announced guidelines, devotees will no longer be allowed to wear inappropriate or revealing clothing within the temple premises. The following attire has been prohibited:
Shorts
Mini skirts
Western outfits
Ripped jeans
Half pants
Revealing clothes
Recommended Attire for Devotees:
Women and Girls: Sarees and salwar-kurtas
Men and Boys: Dhotis, kurta-pyjamas, full-length pants, and t-shirts
Temple authorities have urged all visitors to respect the dress code and cooperate with security and volunteers to ensure a smooth and respectful darshan experience. The trust emphasized that the move is not meant to inconvenience devotees, but to uphold the dignity and traditional values of the holy site. More detailed notices and signage regarding the new rules will be placed near the temple premises before the implementation date.
