Republic Day 2026 : No 'VIP' on Rajpath on Republic Day, 10,000 'special' guests invited to the parade
The country's 77th Republic Day celebration is set to create a unique history this year. The gallery on Rajpath, usually filled with VIPs, political leaders, and dignitaries, will this year be adorned by the country's 'true heroes.' The central government has invited as many as 10,000 special guests to watch the Republic Day parade, including farmers, workers, scientists, startup entrepreneurs, members of women's self-help groups, athletes, and citizens working at the grassroots level of society. The government's aim is clear—to honor every ordinary citizen contributing to nation-building on a national platform. In recent years, special attention has been given to individuals bringing about positive change in society through government schemes, and this tradition continues this year. The message conveyed through this initiative is that 'democracy is not limited to elections, but is built through daily hard work.'
Salute to Scientists, Startup Heroes, and Athletes
This year's guest list has given special recognition to ISRO scientists. Scientists who have brought global recognition to India by successfully executing ambitious missions like Gaganyaan and Chandrayaan have been invited to the Republic Day parade. Additionally, young startup entrepreneurs creating jobs through new technology will also be part of this event. Athletes who have raised India's flag in global para-athletics competitions, farmers enhancing soil fertility through natural farming, and women doing remarkable work in the health and education sectors have also been given a place of honor this year.
Full Stop to VIP Culture
This year, the Ministry of Defence has taken a concrete step towards ending VIP culture. The galleries for viewing the parade have now been named after the sacred rivers of India instead of any designations. Spectators will enjoy the parade from galleries named Ganga, Yamuna, Brahmaputra, Kaveri, Narmada, and Sutlej. This change not only honors India's natural heritage but also conveys a message of equality.
Post-parade Delhi Tour and Interaction with Ministers
For these 10,000 special guests, the government has planned a special program not just for the parade but for the entire day. After the parade, they will be shown the historical sites of Delhi. Additionally, there will be an opportunity to directly interact with central ministers and share their experiences in a special program. The government believes that such initiatives will increase public participation in the democratic process and strengthen pride in the country. It has been clarified by the government that this is an effort to encourage the big and small heroes who work quietly and selflessly for the country.
