Organ Donation After Tragedy: Family of 37-Year-Old Accident Victim Saves Seven Lives
Gokuldas was critically injured in a road accident and admitted to Galaxy Superspeciality Hospital in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. Despite the efforts of the medical team, he was declared brain dead. Amid unimaginable sorrow, his family—including wife Komal Kotule, father Baburao Kotule, and brother Dattu Kotule—chose to proceed with organ donation, turning personal tragedy into a beacon of hope for others.
Organs Donated and Lives Saved
The donated organs were swiftly allocated to hospitals across the country through a carefully coordinated Green Corridor, resulting in multiple life-saving procedures:
Kidney transplant successfully performed at Galaxy Superspeciality Hospital, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar
Heart transplanted at Reliance Hospital, Mumbai
Liver transplanted at Gleneagles Hospital, Mumbai
Lungs sent to Kedia Hospital, Ahmedabad
Corneas (eyes) and the second kidney transplanted at MGM Hospital, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar
Medical Team Behind the Mission
The treatment and coordination efforts were led by a skilled team of doctors:
Neurosurgeon Dr. Vijay Mundhe, Neurophysician Dr. Rahul Vahatule, and intensivists Dr. Vinod Chaware, Dr. Amol Khande, and Dr. Balaji Biradar managed Gokuldas’s critical care.
The organ retrieval team, led by nephrologist Dr. Wajid Mogal, included Dr. Abhimanyu Makene, Dr. Umesh Kakade, Dr. Devendra Lokhande, Dr. Sujata Changule, and Dr. Jayesh Takle.
The kidney transplant surgery was performed by Dr. Sudarshan Jadhav, Dr. Abhay Mahajan, Dr. Pradeep Saruk, and Dr. Arun Chinchole.

The success of the multi-city organ transport was made possible by the swift and coordinated efforts of the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Police Department. The creation of an efficient Green Corridor ensured the timely delivery of organs to hospitals in Mumbai, Ahmedabad, and local facilities.
This remarkable coordination was done with the support and guidance of the Zonal Integrated Coordination Committee (ZICC), further highlighting the power of organized collaboration in medical emergencies.
