Pahalgam Terror Attack: India suspends Indus Water Treaty
After the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, the central government took several tough decisions against Pakistan. Among them, the suspension of the Indus Water Treaty was an important decision. Accordingly, India has suspended the Indus Water Treaty with Pakistan today in the wake of the Pahalgam terrorist attack. The Indus River, which flows through both India and Pakistan, is well-known. An agreement was signed on 19 September 1960 to share the waters of the Indus River and its tributaries between India and Pakistan. This agreement is known as the Indus Waters Treaty. India and Pakistan had been negotiating for 9 years to reach an agreement on this agreement. After that, both the countries signed this agreement in 1960. On 19 September 1960, the then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and the then President of Pakistan Ayub Khan signed this agreement in Karachi.
