Nagpur: Nagpur residents will experience the journey of 'Vande Bharat Express'
In what comes as a major boost for railway connectivity, Nagpur residents will soon experience the high-speed comfort of the Vande Bharat Express on routes to Pune and Mumbai. The Central Railway’s Nagpur Division has submitted a proposal to the Railway Board to introduce two new Vande Bharat trains from Nagpur, bringing the total number of such services from the city to five.
Currently, three Vande Bharat trains operate from Nagpur—connecting the city with Secunderabad, Indore, and Bhopal. The proposed additions would directly link Nagpur to Pune and Mumbai, offering a much-needed solution to the rising demand for faster and more efficient travel options from Vidarbha to western Maharashtra.
Speaking on the development, Vinayak Garg, the newly appointed Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of Nagpur, confirmed that a formal proposal has been submitted. He added that passengers can expect official communication from the Railway Board within the coming months.
The demand for improved connectivity between Nagpur and cities like Pune and Mumbai has been growing steadily, especially after the increase in traffic following the Konkan route expansion. However, the current number of trains on these routes remains insufficient, often leading to long waiting lists and forcing passengers to opt for more expensive private alternatives.
Railway officials have pointed out that the introduction of Vande Bharat Express on these routes could reduce the Nagpur–Mumbai travel time from 16 hours to just 10 hours, offering significant time savings and enhanced travel comfort.
For the past two years, passengers have been calling for additional trains on these high-demand routes. With this latest proposal, there is renewed hope that their wait may finally be over.
If approved, the two new Vande Bharat trains are expected to begin operations later this year, offering a faster, more reliable, and premium travel experience. Nagpur’s residents may soon enjoy what officials describe as the “feeling of summer as well as cold”—a poetic nod to the blend of speed and comfort that the new trains promise.
