If you have recently changed your home, it is necessary to update your address in official documents. In many places, it is important to change the address on important documents, as well as update the new address on the passport. In such a situation, you can change the address on your passport through the 'Re-Issue Process'. Whether you have changed cities or moved within the same area, you can easily change the address through this process.
The passport serves as the primary proof of identity and address both in the country you reside in and abroad. When changing homes, failing to update your address can lead to problems in the following situations.
– Police verification when reissuing a passport or applying for a visa
– Verification at the embassy or consulate during international travel
– Document verification during official processes like bank KYC or employment
How to change the address in the passport? (Online Process)
1) Visit www.passportindia.gov.in. 2) Click on ‘New User Registration’ to create a new account and log in. 3) Select the option ‘Apply for Fresh Passport / Reissue of Passport’ and click on the ‘Reissue’ option. Next, select ‘Change in Existing Personal Particulars’ under reasons. 4) Now enter the ‘New Address’ as per your address proof. 5) Upload the proof of the new address (Aadhaar card, electricity bill, etc.). 6) Now pay the fee. (1500 rupees for a 36-page passport and 2000 rupees for a 60-page passport.) After this, book an appointment at the Passport Seva Kendra or Post Office Passport Seva Kendra. 7) On the day of your appointment, keep the ‘Appointment Receipt, original passport, self-attested copy of your new address proof, two photos’ with you. 8) If you have relocated to a new city, police verification may be required. 9) After verification, your new passport will be sent to your address via ‘Speed Post’.

Processing Time
Under normal procedure, a new passport is sent within 7 to 14 working days after police verification is completed. Under the Tatkal scheme, if all documents are correct and verified, the passport is issued within 1 to 3 days.
