Local Body Election : Permission for Offline Nominations for Local Body Elections; Decision of the Election Commission
The State Election Commission has made an important and practical decision regarding the upcoming municipal corporations, district councils, and panchayat committee elections in the state. The State Election Commission has allowed candidates to file nomination papers in the traditional offline manner as well. State Election Commissioner Dinesh Waghmare made this announcement at a meeting of recognized political parties held in Mumbai. This decision is considered an important step towards making the election process more inclusive and accessible.
Offline Enrollment System Implemented
According to the Election Commission, previously an online and offline enrollment system was implemented for municipal council and municipal panchayat elections, which received a positive response from political parties and candidates. Based on this experience, this facility is now being extended to elections of major local self-government institutions across the state. This will provide relief to candidates who are not fully aware of technical resources or digital processes. The commission has started extensive preparations for the upcoming elections. Elections are planned for 29 municipal corporations, 32 district councils, and 336 panchayat committees in the state. Preparations have been intensified on both administrative and technical fronts to conduct elections on such a large scale.
The commission has taken a strict stance on the accuracy of the voter list. Clear instructions have been given to all municipal commissioners and district magistrates to resolve the issue of duplicate voters. In this regard, the BMC has developed special software to identify potential duplicate voters, making the voter list more transparent and reliable. For the convenience of voters, the commission has also made available the facility to verify the voter list through their website and the 'Maladhikar' mobile app. This allows citizens to accurately verify their names in the voter list from home.
