Possibility of Code of Conduct Being Implemented in the State After Election Commission's Press Conference
In Brief
Possibility of Code of Conduct Being Implemented in the State
Possibility of Election Dates Being Announced
What stance will the opposition take if the commission announces the election?
According to reliable sources, there is a possibility that the code of conduct will be immediately implemented in the state after the Election Commission's press conference concludes. The Supreme Court has given clear directives that it is mandatory to complete the elections of all local self-government bodies whose terms have expired by January 31, 2026. Against this backdrop, the State Election Commission is now under a time constraint, and today is considered the most likely day for the announcement of election dates.
In these upcoming local self-government elections, the local self-government system in the state is awaiting elections due to the expiration of terms of all institutions, including 29 municipal corporations, 32 district councils, 42 town councils, 336 panchayat committees, and 246 municipalities.

As soon as these elections are announced, the political atmosphere in the state is going to heat up further. The BJP, Congress, Nationalist Congress Party Sharad Pawar group and Ajit Pawar group, Shiv Sena (including Uddhav Thackeray group and Shinde group) and all parties in the state have geared up for the elections. Just a few days ago, the opposition had approached the State Election Commission regarding voter discrepancies. They had also met with the Election Commission. The MNS and Mahavikas Aghadi had also jointly launched a truth march regarding the voter list discrepancies. There are discrepancies in the voter list. Evidence of this was also presented. But now if the commission announces the election today, what stance will the opposition take? It will be important to see.
