Possibility of Sea Turbulence in Mumbai Due to Cyclone Montha, Heavy Rainfall Warning for Mumbai
In Brief
The weather in the Arabian Sea changed due to the Montha storm
Water transport on the Konkan coast has been suspended.
A major decision following the weather department's warning
Due to the weather changes in the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal, a significant change in the atmosphere is observed. The decision has been made to halt maritime transport along the Konkan coast due to the Montha storm. In the backdrop of this storm, the likelihood of the sea in Mumbai becoming turbulent has increased. Therefore, the Maharashtra Maritime Board has decided to temporarily suspend the Mandwa–Gateway of India ferry service. The strong winds generated in the Arabian Sea have caused unstable weather, and this precaution is being taken for safety reasons. It has been raining in the state for several days, and the Diwali festival also passed in the rain. Although the rain took a break for some time afterward, the situation has changed again due to the Montha storm, and it is predicted that moderate rainfall may occur along the Konkan coast for two days due to the low-pressure area in the Arabian Sea.
Major decision after weather department's warning
Due to the Motha cyclone, there is a possibility of the sea in Mumbai becoming rough, and in that context, the Mandwa–Gateway of India water transport service will be temporarily suspended. The Maharashtra Maritime Board has announced this decision. Meanwhile, it has been reported that the 'Maldar Captain' boat will continue to operate temporarily, while all other boats have been suspended. After the weather department issued a level three warning, all fishermen in the Alibag, Murud, Kashid, Revdanda, and Uran areas have kept their boats ashore.
Meanwhile, due to the formation of a low-pressure area in the Arabian Sea, the rainfall in Konkan has increased, affecting cashew plantations. Continuous rain has led to an increase in fungal diseases and pest infestations on cashew trees. In some areas, cashew blossoms have fallen, and there is a possibility of trees drying up. The meteorological department has urged citizens and fishermen to exercise caution. It is also predicted that the intensity of rain will continue along the Konkan coast for the next few days.
Heavy rain continues in Chiplun, farmers distressed
The sudden onset of rain since last night in Chiplun has left citizens in a state of panic. The rain has caused significant damage to rice crops. As water accumulated in the fields, farmers had placed harvested rice crops on the roads to dry. However, heavy rain resumed since last night and continues unabated. This has left the farmers in Chiplun taluka distressed. They will have to face the massive losses as the rice crop cannot be saved. The harvested rice has started to rot due to moisture, causing substantial damage to the rice fields. This has resulted in a major financial blow, leaving the farmers distressed. Saving the rice crop has become a major challenge for the farmers. They have demanded compensation from the government.
