Pregnant Wife Commits Suicide Due to Harassment for Heir
A shocking incident has come to light in Nanded where a wife was continuously abused for the purpose of having a son. Fed up with this unbearable harassment, the pregnant woman finally ended her life by hanging herself, causing a stir in the area. Based on the complaint lodged by the victim's father, a case has been registered against the husband and three sisters-in-law, and the police have started an investigation.
Pratiksha Bhosale from Hingoli district married Laxman Bhosale from Nanded in 2023. Although everything was smooth for some time after the marriage, darkness enveloped her life in March 2024 after Pratiksha gave birth to a baby girl. The in-laws did not want a girl; expecting only a son as the 'lamp of the lineage', they began to put pressure on Pratiksha.
Constant harassment for wanting a boy
Pratiksha was being subjected to various forms of mental and physical abuse so that she would become pregnant again and this time have a boy. Not only that, but she was also being pressured to bring five lakh rupees from her parental home for a school van. Due to all this stress, Pratiksha suffered a miscarriage once. Still, the abuse did not stop.
After becoming pregnant for the third time, she was taken to a ‘special doctor’. She was told to take certain medicines to have a boy; however, when Pratiksha refused to take these medicines, her husband assaulted her. In addition, all three sisters-in-law were constantly abusing her, threatening her, and mentally harassing her over the phone, as stated in the complaint.
Suicide as a way out of harassment
Pratiksha, who was distressed by the constant harassment from her in-laws, finally decided to take her own life. When no one was at home, she ended her life by hanging herself. This sudden incident came as a huge shock to Pratiksha's family.
Upon learning about the incident, Pratiksha's father lodged a complaint at the airport police station. Based on his statement, a case has been registered against her husband Laxman Bhosale and three sisters-in-law under charges of violation of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, harassment, abuse, and abetting suicide.
The incident sparks a wave of anger in the state
The inhuman harassment of a pregnant woman for wanting a male child, and ultimately her suicide, has spread outrage across the entire Nanded district. Such incidents have once again brought women's safety issues to the forefront, and there is widespread discussion in society about the distorted mentality of the ‘heir to the family’. The police have indicated that they will take strict action against all the accused in this case.
