Maharashtra Election : Public holiday on January 15; Confusion still regarding schools and colleges

Due to this decision, it is speculated that schools and colleges in some parts of the state may remain closed. However, since the official order from the Election Commission does not explicitly mention educational institutions, confusion has arisen among students, parents, and teachers.

Currently, the voting process is underway for various municipal corporations, municipal councils, and municipal panchayats in the state. A public holiday has been declared to ensure maximum voter participation on the day of voting. This holiday will apply to government offices, semi-government establishments, and some private institutions. However, the final decision regarding schools and colleges will depend on the local administration, the education department, or the management of the respective institutions.

In some districts, schools and colleges are used as polling stations or for staff appointments during the election process. In such places, there is a higher likelihood of declaring a holiday for educational institutions. However, in areas where there is no direct impact of the election, the possibility of regular academic activities continuing cannot be ruled out.

In this context, students and parents are being urged to verify official instructions from their respective school or college administration instead of believing in rumors. Many educational institutions are providing information through WhatsApp groups, notice boards, or official websites. Therefore, it is advised to make further plans only after confirming the final decision.
