Pune Accident: Woman Killed, One Injured in Tragic Collision at Gangadham Chowk
A horrific road accident occurred at Gangadham Chowk, within the jurisdiction of Market Yard Police Station in Pune, around 11:15 AM on Wednesday. A 29-year-old woman, Deepali Soni, tragically lost her life, while her husband, Jagdish Soni, sustained serious injuries after a goods truck rammed into their two-wheeler from behind.
The truck, bearing registration number MH-14 AS-8852, was reportedly being driven recklessly by Shaukat Kalkundi, who allegedly accelerated after the traffic signal malfunctioned, colliding with the couple’s vehicle. Deepali died on the spot, and Jagdish was immediately rushed to the hospital, where he remains under treatment.
Market Yard Police responded swiftly to the scene, detaining the truck driver and sending him for a medical examination. Authorities have seized the vehicle and initiated a thorough investigation. The incident was recorded on a CCTV camera, and the footage has since gone viral on social media, sparking widespread concern.
Gangadham and the nearby Market Yard area are known for high traffic congestion and frequent movement of heavy goods vehicles.
