Nephew Severely Attacks Uncle in Thergaon, Cuts Off Both Hands; Family Alleges Police Negligence
Pimpri-Chinchwad, Pune – A horrifying incident has shocked the residents of Thergaon in Pimpri-Chinchwad, where a delivery boy allegedly attacked his uncle with a sharp weapon, nearly severing both his hands. The accused, identified as Rohan Nimaj, carried out the assault with the help of two associates — Shubham Pawar and Prashant Sakat. All three were arrested by the Wakad police, but were granted bail the very next day, sparking public outrage and strong protests by the victim's family.
The attack took place near Laxmibai Barne Park in Thergaon. According to the investigation, Rohan had been harboring anger against his maternal uncle after being reprimanded and slapped by him for allegedly misbehaving with a girl who lived near the victim’s house. Rohan reportedly had a one-sided infatuation with the girl, and when the matter came to the attention of the girl's uncle, he confronted and slapped Rohan. In retaliation, Rohan, with the help of his two friends, ambushed and attacked the uncle.
During the attack, Rohan aimed a blow at the victim’s head with a sharp weapon, but the uncle dodged. As a result, the weapon struck both his hands. The left hand was completely severed, while the right hand was partially mutilated. The victim was rushed to the hospital in critical condition.
Despite the gravity of the crime, the three accused were granted bail just a day after their arrest. This led to angry protests by the victim's relatives in front of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissionerate. The family has accused the police of negligence and questioned how such dangerous individuals could be released on bail so swiftly.
In response to the backlash, the Wakad Police have initiated fresh legal proceedings and are reportedly seeking court permission to re-arrest the accused. However, serious concerns have been raised over whether adequate measures are being taken to ensure that the accused do not abscond while the court process is underway.
