Pune News: PMPML Bus Fares Hiked After a Decade; New Rates Effective from June 1
The Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML), which operates public bus services in Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, and the PMRDA region, has announced a significant increase in bus fares for the first time in ten years. The revised fare structure will come into effect from June 1, 2025, leading to higher travel costs for daily commuters.
The fare revision has been approved by the Board of Directors and the Regional Transport Authority, Pune, and is based on the state government’s notification dated March 31, 2018, as well as comparisons with fare patterns of other transport undertakings.
New Fare Structure:
The updated fare system introduces 11 stages:
One stage for every 5 km from 1 to 30 km
One stage for every 10 km from 30 to 80 km
Revised fares are as follows:
Up to 5 km – ₹10
5.1 to 10 km – ₹20
10.1 to 15 km – ₹30
15.1 to 20 km – ₹40
As a result, passengers traveling longer distances will face significantly increased fares.
Hike in Pass Prices:
In addition to single-ticket fares, PMPML has revised daily and monthly pass rates:
Daily pass (Pune & Pimpri-Chinchwad): increased from ₹40 to ₹70
Daily pass (PMRDA limits): increased from ₹120 to ₹150
Monthly pass: increased from ₹900 to ₹1,500
However, concessions for students, senior citizens, and persons with disabilities remain unchanged.
The fare hike, aimed at improving service quality and addressing rising operational costs, will be implemented starting the morning of June 1, 2025.
