Devendra Fadnavis : Raj Thackeray's Allegation on Marker Pen Case, Fadnavis's Jibe
For the 29 municipal corporations in the state, including Mumbai, the voting process started today (15 January) at 7:30 AM. However, as soon as voting began, a shocking and controversial issue emerged from Mumbai, where it was observed that instead of ink being applied to the finger after voting, a line was being drawn directly with a marker pen. Notably, it is being alleged that this marker pen ink can be easily wiped off. This incident has raised questions about the transparency of the election process, and the opposition has strongly criticized the conduct of the Election Commission.
MNS President Raj Thackeray also reacted strongly to this issue, targeting the Election Commission. He alleged, “Using erasable marker pens instead of ink is a mockery of the voting process.” This incident has raised fears of potential malpractice, and there are also angry reactions on social media.
Meanwhile, in response to these allegations, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis indirectly criticized Raj Thackeray. Devendra Fadnavis said, “Local self-governments are the foundation of democracy. If we want to strengthen democracy, there should be a large turnout in local self-government elections. Voting is not just a right but also our duty. Not voting is akin to neglecting our duty in a democracy.”
Fadnavis further said, “I have voted myself and I appeal to all citizens in the 29 municipal corporations of Maharashtra to vote in large numbers. Good representatives are elected when there is a high voter turnout, which leads to development. If we want to build good cities, the public should actively participate in voting.”
When asked about the use of marker pens, the Chief Minister said, “All these matters are decided by the Election Commission. Marker pens have been used many times before. However, if anyone has an objection, the Election Commission should take note of it.” He also took a jab, saying, “It is clear that some people are already preparing to blame someone after the results, keeping tomorrow's outcome in mind.” Due to this entire controversy, the political atmosphere has heated up against the backdrop of the municipal elections, and everyone is watching to see what stance the Election Commission takes on this.
