Maharashtra Politics : Rebellion in Municipal Elections in the State, Will Leaders Step In to Calm the Rebels?
Amidst the backdrop of the Mumbai Municipal Corporation elections, it is currently observed that the session of rebellion is in full swing among all major political parties. From the Thackeray brand alliance to the BJP-Shinde Sena alliance, political equations have become more complicated as independent nominations have been filed in many wards apart from the official candidates.
Along with the candidates who received nominations from the Thackeray brand alliance, some rebel candidates have also entered the fray in certain places. Chandrakant Vaigankar of Uddhav Thackeray's Sena from Ward No. 95, Sagar Devre from Ward 106, Kamlakar Naik from Ward 169, Suryakant Koli from Ward 193, and Sangeeta Jagtap from Ward 196 have filed nominations. In the same alliance, Anisha Majgaonkar of MNS has stirred discussions by filing an independent nomination from Ward No. 114, leading to rebellion.
On the other hand, a similar rebellion is seen in the BJP and Shinde Sena alliance. While Ward No. 225 was left to the Shinde Sena, BJP's Harshita Narvekar filed a nomination from that ward. As a result, Shinde Sena's Sujata Sanap also filed a nomination. Although it has been indicated that there will be a friendly contest in this ward after this confusion, there is still uncertainty about what exactly is happening.
After BJP announced Ashwin Mate's candidacy from Ward 129, Surekha Salvi filed an independent nomination and declared rebellion. Additionally, Rajendra Sale from Ward 166, Snehal Wadekar from Ward 73, Mukund Kakad from Ward 125, Gajendra Dhumale from Ward 200, Dhanashree Bagal from Ward 131, and Urmila Gupta from Ward 61 have also rebelled and filed independent nominations.
Meanwhile, the BJP announced the candidacy of Tejaswini Ghosalkar, daughter-in-law of former MLA Vinod Ghosalkar, who recently joined the BJP from the Uddhav Thackeray faction, from Dahisar. However, local workers have shown strong opposition to this, and internal party dissatisfaction has come to the fore.
In addition, there was a huge uproar outside Matoshree by workers protesting the ticket given to Shraddha Jadhav from the Uddhav Thackeray faction. Overall, the political temperature in the Mumbai municipal elections has risen significantly due to rebels rather than official candidates, and the contests in many wards are likely to become more exciting.
