Mahaparinirvan Day 2025 : Sale of Platform Tickets Banned at 'These' 13 Stations in Mumbai

On this occasion, to manage the massive crowd of local passengers, the Central Railway (CR) division has temporarily suspended the sale of platform tickets at 13 major railway stations, including Mumbai. This decision has been made to ensure smooth movement and safe boarding and alighting of passengers at crowded stations on Mahaparinirvan Day. However, as per the guidelines of the Railway Board, platform tickets will be issued to senior citizens, sick passengers, children, and women passengers in need of assistance.

This suspension on platform ticket sales will remain in effect from December 5 to December 7, 2025. Meanwhile, as per the guidelines of the Railway Board, platform tickets will be issued to senior citizens, sick passengers, children, and women passengers requiring assistance.

Central Railway's Chief Public Relations Officer Dr. Swapnil Neela stated in a statement, “In view of the large crowd of devotees traveling on Mahaparinirvan Day, Central Railway has temporarily suspended the sale of platform tickets at 13 major stations.

This includes the elderly, senior citizens, sick individuals, children, illiterate persons, and women travelers who cannot be taken care of. “To facilitate travel, individuals with comorbidities are exempted from these restrictions.” He also urged passengers to plan accordingly and adhere to the new rules for a smooth and safe travel experience.

Development of Passenger Holding Areas

After the successful implementation of permanent passenger holding areas at New Delhi Railway Station, the Ministry of Railways aims to develop permanent passenger holding areas at 75 more stations. The national transport company has set a target to complete the construction of these permanent holding areas before the 2026 festive season.
