Dr. Madhav Gadgil passed away after a brief illness

Madhav Gadgil Passed Away: Senior environmentalist Dr. Madhav Gadgil, who constantly advocated for the preservation of nature and the environment, has passed away. He took his last breath on Wednesday night in a hospital in Pune after a brief illness. He was 83 years old. His funeral will be held today at 4 PM.

Today, their mortal remains will be kept at their residence in the Pashan area for final respects. Their demise is being felt as the loss of an important person who dedicated their life to environmental conservation.

Dr. Gadgil dedicated his entire life to the study of nature. In recognition of his work, the United Nations awarded him the prestigious 'Champion of the Earth' award in 2024. Additionally, he was also honored with the Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan awards.

They conducted long-term research on the biodiversity of the Western Ghats. They presented an in-depth study on the environmental damage caused by development projects. They have written many books and hundreds of research articles have been published in journals worldwide. A scholarly guide who raised his voice for nature is now forever silent.
