The bugle for local self-government elections may sound at any moment
The bugle for local self-government elections in the state is about to sound at any moment. In the next few days, the state election commission is also likely to announce the code of conduct. Therefore, now aspiring candidates are seen making vigorous efforts. However, many aspiring candidates are going to be shocked even before the announcement of local self-government elections in the state. The main reason for this is that the state election commission has made a major decision, which is likely to have a significant impact on the aspiring candidates.
Currently, there is a law that prevents those with more than two children from contesting local self-government elections (Maharashtra Election Commission). However, despite this, many candidates are seen making various attempts to hide having more than two children. Now, the commission (Maharashtra Election) has made a significant decision. To stop the practice of hiding more than two children and to implement appropriate measures, the state's Chief Information Commissioner Rahul Pandey has given instructions to the state government and the state election commission. He has ordered the preparation of an SOP to prevent malpractices in elections. A law has been enacted stating that if a candidate has more than two children after 2001, they will not be allowed to contest elections.
However, even after this, many candidates are devising ways to hide more than two children, prompting the state's Chief Information Commissioner Rahul Pandey to instruct the state government and the State Election Commission to prepare an SOP to prevent malpractice in elections. On the other hand, after the Supreme Court's order, local self-government elections in the state are set to be held by January 31, 2026. It is anticipated that the code of conduct for these elections will be implemented in the state on November 10. For this, a notification will soon be issued by the State Election Commission. As a result, movements have gained momentum at the local level from the Mahayuti and Mahavikas Aghadi.
