Shops, Hotels, and Establishments in the State Can Now Remain Open 24 Hours

The state government has approved keeping shops, hotels, and other establishments open 24 hours. In this regard, the state government has issued an ordinance. The permission to remain open 24 hours has been granted to all establishments except those selling and serving alcohol.

The state government has granted permission for shops, hotels, and other establishments in the state to remain open 24 hours. In this regard, the state government has issued an ordinance. The permission to remain open 24 hours has been granted to all establishments except those selling and supplying alcohol. However, now approval has been given to keep shops open 24 hours across Maharashtra.

The decision has been made to start nightlife in the state. Shops, hotels, and other establishments in the state can now remain open 24 hours. Except for liquor houses, bar permit rooms, hookah parlors, and local bars, all other establishments, eateries, and shops are now allowed to operate 24 hours as per the government decision issued by the state government's industry department.

In Section 2(2) of the Act, 2017, the definition of “day” is mentioned as a period of twenty-four hours starting from midnight under the Maharashtra Shops and Establishments (Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Service). Also, all days can be kept open for business in an establishment under Section 16(1)(b) of this Act. However, it is provided that each employee there will be given a weekly holiday ensuring twenty-four hours of continuous rest per week.
