Sunil Tatkare on NCP Reunion: “No Proposal to Bring Both Factions Together”
Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) state president Sunil Tatkare has put an end to growing speculation regarding a possible reunion of the two NCP factions. Speaking to the media in Pune, Tatkare made it clear that there is currently no proposal to bring both groups of the party together. When asked whether both NCP factions—led by Sharad Pawar and Ajit Pawar—might consider merging, Tatkare firmly responded, “There is no such proposal in the NCP. We are not going to bring any such resolution in the upcoming session.”
Tatkare emphasized the importance of the Mahayuti (Grand Alliance) and said that their focus remains on contesting elections as a unified alliance. “As a grand alliance, we are ready to contest the elections together. Yes, different regions of the state have different political equations. But despite that, we will ensure the integrity of the alliance is maintained,” he assured. He further revealed that internal discussions within the party about gaining power at the Centre or in the state have been ongoing since 2014. “Senior-level conversations on the party's direction have continued over the years,” he added.
Tatkare’s statement comes at a time when political observers are closely watching both NCP camps for signs of reconciliation or realignment ahead of upcoming elections. His remarks suggest that, at least for now, the two factions will continue operating independently, despite being part of broader coalition strategies.
