Asia Cup 2025 : Players will have to pass the Bronco Test to get a chance in the team! BCCI's new rule; What is the Bronco Test?
The mistake made by Indian bowlers during the England tour in the Test match will now affect them for the Asia Cup. After the England tour, BCCI has implemented the Bronco Test as a new rule to assess players' fitness.
Therefore, players will now be seen running more on the field. The reason behind this is that the bowlers did not perform as expected in the Test match. To ensure the fitness and running capacity of the bowlers remain good, the Bronco Test will be conducted. Only after passing this test will a player get a place in Team India.
For the Asia Cup 2025 tournament, which will be held in the UAE from September 9, a 15-member Indian team has been selected, balancing young and experienced players. Shubman Gill will take on the responsibility as vice-captain. However, Shreyas Iyer has not been included in the team this time. Therefore, it will be important to see how well the Indian bowlers adhere to the new rules set by the BCCI for bowlers.
What is the Bronco Test?
The Bronco Test is primarily conducted to assess the running capacity and fitness of players, especially bowlers. The BCCI has introduced the Bronco Test to enable bowlers to run more on the field. During this, a set is prepared for the player, and within the same set, they must complete shuttle runs of 20 meters, 40 meters, and 60 meters. The player is expected to complete a total of five sets without stopping.
According to the information received, Indian players have been asked to pass the Bronco test in 6 minutes, and the players will run approximately 1200 meters in five sets. The Bronco test was initiated in the BCCI's COE after the England tour. Some players have also taken the Bronco test at the COE in Bengaluru. Coach Gautam Gambhir has also agreed to this. Initially, the Bronco test was recommended by strength and conditioning coach Adrian Le Roux.
