Nagpur Floods: Rivers overflow as NDRF leads rescue amid heavy rains; homes inundated, residents trapped.

Continuous heavy rainfall over the past three days has created a severe flood situation in Nagpur, prompting the deployment of NDRF (National Disaster Response Force) teams for rescue operations. The situation has turned alarming in multiple low-lying areas, particularly Hudkeshwar and Narsala, where rivers and drains have overflowed, inundating homes and streets.

In Hudkeshwar, the Pohra River has flooded, leading to water entering several homes and submerging roads. Similarly, in Narsala, drain water surged into residential areas, causing panic among residents. Many citizens have been trapped in their houses since last night due to rapidly rising water levels.

Responding to emergency calls, the NDRF team quickly arrived at the affected locations and began rescue operations using boats. Alongside, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation’s Disaster Management team is working on a war footing to evacuate residents and move them to safer areas. So far, eight people have been rescued by boat, while several others remain stranded on rooftops, awaiting evacuation.

Local residents reported that the situation deteriorated overnight due to continuous and intense rainfall. The water level surged further this morning, worsening the flood impact and cutting off access to several homes. Upon receiving distress calls, the administration promptly mobilized rescue teams to provide relief.

Despite the efforts, challenges persist as the rain shows no sign of abating, and the water level continues to rise. Authorities have issued a high alert for the entire region, urging citizens to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary travel.

Both the municipal disaster teams and NDRF units are monitoring the situation round the clock, and further rescue operations may be necessary if the rainfall continues. Relief and shelter arrangements are also being made for affected families.
